Please find below a statement regarding the recent independent investigation carried out by Barnardos looking into historic (stage1) and current (stage 2) practice at the church. You can read these reports here:
‘As a church, we recognise that someone who once attended the church was not looked after in the way that we would have liked, and we stand by the apology that has been personally made to them. We do not condone the prayer ministry practice that this person experienced and we are learning from what happened. To that end below is the statement that was sent to the media:
“We have accepted the outcomes of the first investigation and are saddened that 8 years ago one of our community was not cared for in the way we would have liked. We sincerely apologised to them for this.
Whilst the leadership of the church has changed, we recognise there are significant lessons to be learned and we are determined to learn them. We are encouraged that the 2024 independent report into the current practice of the church stated that there was :
“…no evidence to suggest that people from different faiths or from the LGBTQ+ community would not be made welcome by the Church or would be subject to harassment or rejection by its members without challenge.” Pg 36
To this end, we continue with our commitment to be a kind and generous congregation working to serve God and to make life better for the people of Sheffield.”‘
